The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and Chengdu Sports Bureau have announced that the 55th World Gymnastics Championships will be held in Chengdu from the end of September to early October 2027.

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) stated that it had previously received relevant documents from the Chinese Gymnastics Association regarding its bid to host the 2027 Gymnastics World Championships. The Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation has decided to transfer the hosting rights of this event to Chengdu, China.

The World Gymnastics Championships was born in 1903 and is an international A-class event, the highest level event in gymnastics. Previously, two cities in China had hosted the Gymnastics World Championships, namely Tianjin (1999) and Nanning (2014). The 55th Gymnastics World Championships in 2027 will also be a qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. At that time, there will be 60 winning representative teams selected through various continent championships participating, with a total of about 400 athletes and a total size of about 1000 people. The competition period is expected to be around 10 days.

The Gymnastics World Championships have clear requirements for competition venues, which must meet the conditions of competition, training, and warm-up venues required for the competition. The competition venue must have no less than 4000 seats. The venue gymnastics equipment should be certified by the International Gymnastics Federation.
